Come celebrate Arbor Day at the Concho Elementary gymnasium on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lodestar Gardens will be one of 30-plus booths set up for vendors and community resources.
We will be selling our farm-fresh eggs, tomato starts and vegetables in addition to helping support the Concho community.
The Arbor Day celebration will feature several key speakers beginning at 11 a.m., as Darrel Craig of the Arizona Forest Service will talk about FireWise, fire safety with his friend Smokey the Bear. Ron Kemble, a certified arborist, will talk about the proper way to plant a tree at 12 noon, followed by another talk about proper tree pruning techniques at 1 p.m.
There will be additional, 30-minute “table talks” featuring Lodestar Gardens’ farm manager, Mark Nelson, discussing work exchange opportunities for youth in agriculture at 10:30 a.m., Kent Brewer talking about greenhouses at 11:30 a.m., Dwaine Lara on growing in cold frames and at 1:30 p.m., Shawntel Skousen will present about safe canning practices.
Lunch will be provided by the Concho Lions’ Club for $5.
Arbor Day also features a food drive that will benefit the Concho Community Kitchen. Items can be dropped off at Saturday’s Arbor Day event.
We hope to see you there!
