Hit the Road with Lodestar Gardens

If you missed our first tour, don’t fret – come with us on Saturday (May 6) for our second road trip tour of area greenhouses!

At 9:30 a.m. (or preferably a little before), meet at the Kerr-Cole Sustainable Living Center. Turn at Papermill Rd off Hwy 77 in Taylor and travel 3.2 miles until you see the windmill on top of the hill and the sign at the gate.

REMINDER: Bring your own lunch; this excursion will take a full afternoon.

If you are considering building a greenhouse of any size or type, you will want to learn from local greenhouse owners. Here’s an easy and efficient way to see a half-dozen or so greenhouses in the White Mountains region; we will concentrate on the the area of Taylor-Snowflake-Shumway.

During our tour we will see three examples of walipini’s (underground greenhouses). After convening at the Kerr-Cole Sustainable Living Center, we will convoy to the various locations.

Blue Whittle, who is helping us on Saturday, is a veteran greenhouse grower and his structure is decades old and still serving him well. We thank Blue for helping us to organize this event.
